The Tomb of Pope Julius II is an architectural and sculpture ensemble created by Michelangelo and his helpers. The building was meant for St. Peter's Basilica, but after the pope's death, it was moved to San Pietro in Vincoli on the Esquiline in Rome. The Della Rovere family, from which Julius descended, was a regular attendee at this cathedral, where he had served as a titular cardinal. The final building, however, does not truly serve as a tomb because Julius II is interred with his uncle Sixtus IV at St. Peter's Basilica.
