Joseph Mallord William Turner, an English artist, painted The Fighting Temeraire, hauled to her last berth to be broken up in 1838 in oil on canvas. It was created in 1838 and displayed at the Royal Academy in 1839. The artwork shows the 98-gun HMS Temeraire, one of the last inferior ships of the line to have participated in the Battle of Trafalgar, being pulled up the Thames by a paddle-wheel steam tug in 1838 on its way to Rotherhithe, where it would be dismantled for scrap.
