Jackson Pollock  (1912–1956) - The Master of Abstract Expressionism: Jackson Pollock’s revolutionary practice of painting introduced a philosophy of art’s perception. He used the widely known ‘drip’ method; painted passionate and stormy gestures of forms that are close to abstraction.

Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) - The Urban Expressionist: A selection of the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat were raw and emotionally charged and the artist felt a kinship with the pavement itself. borrowing the element of graffiti art and street culture and as well as the black legacy his paintings such as the Untitled are replication of symbolisms and words mixed with different colors to represent identity and society.

Grant Wood - Celebrating Regionalism: American Gothic by Grant Wood is one of the most famous pieces of art in United States of America today. As for Wood, he is known as one of the leading Regionalist artists and in his artwork he depicted the beauty of the rural life including the mid-western America, in a rather romantic and tender manner, with emphasis on man’s bond with the ground.

 

Edward Hopper (1882–1967)It is for this reason that Edward Hopper has been popularly associated with the portrayal of Realism in his paintings, with his paintings mainly portraying life in the American society in solitude within the concrete jungles and serenity in rustic areas. His famous work ‘Nighthawks’ is today among the most easily recognizable images in American painting.

Norman Rockwell (1894–1978)Norman Rockwell might be considered America’s cultural illustrator; he was best known for his ‘Saturday Evening Post’ illustrations where his paintings captured moments of normal life with much affection, laughter and compassion.

Mark Rothko (1903–1970)One of the great painters of colour field movement was Mark Rothko whose immense canvases presented soft –contoured rectangles of colour. This is some of the most critical abstract artwork of the twentieth century his work provoking strong feeling.

Mary Cassatt (1844–1926) One of the members of the Impressionist Association, Mary Cassatt is famous for her portrayal of women and children in rather close and affectionate ways. Being one of the few American artists who were friends with the French Impressionists and who in turn helped to introduce the movement into America, she was a tour de force for that style.

Winslow Homer (1836–1910)Winslow Homer is best known as the author of major vigorous and expressive images of American painting, including sea and landscape scenes. His work is a portrayal of the strength of the wilderness and the strength of people hence a painter of great merit in the history of nineteenth century America.

Jasper Johns (b. 1930)Jasper Johns is a contemporary artist who painted common – and recognizable icons such as flags, targets, and numbers. As such his work was able to divert from the traditional form of art and inspired generations of artists. Several of Johns’ works such as ‘Flag’ done between 1954 and 1955 are considered paradigmatic in American art.

 

These famous artists of America have played a very huge roles in designing the artistic world domestically and globally. They continue to be fascinating for viewers and I can recall them now, they left their imprint. The free-spiriting movement of Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionism movement, down to the pop art movement of Andy Warhol was indeed a valuable contribution to the whole of aesthetic expression in arts, where visions that are movements for exploration and innovation in the society’s outlook. By so doing, it becomes easier to work out the purpose of these artists and the art history and famous paintings , which these artists and popular artists  have bestowed on us by virtue of such masterpieces.
