Johannes Vermeer: The collection of paintings that celebrate an ordinary life

Johannes Vermeer, a Dutch painter, also known as Vermeer of Delft or Johannes van der Meer or Jan Vermeer, was born in a middle class family on October 31, 1632 in Delft. His father, Reijnier Janszoon, was a silk worker. Not many documented statistics are available on Vermeer, who is now considered perhaps greater than Rembrandt.

Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) becomes a Dutch Baroque Period painter who is stated as one of the best painters of the Dutch Golden Age. The Dutch Golden Age was a completely unique period in the history of the Netherlands, spanning the generation from 1581 to 1672 in which its political, economic, and cultural greatness were among the maximum powerful and influential in the world.

Dutch painting boasts some of history's most excellent painters, which includes Rembrandt Pieter Brueghel the Elder (1525-1569), Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516), Jan Steen (1626-1679), van Rijn (1606-1669) and Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890). Each Dutch master had their own specialty showing off their unique skill and interest in detail.

    Paintings of Daily Life

There are thirty-four paintings attributed to Johannes Vermeer depicting 17th-century, middle-class, daily life, with almost all his artwork set in small rooms in his residence in Delft showing the identical furniture and often portraying the same people.

At that time, the most prestigious cultural works emphasized aristocratic, military, and spiritual lives, such as the great Renaissance artists who produced magnificent artwork of Saints, Angels, and kings, queens, and aristocrats who were celebrated on the loveliest canvasses.

Johannes Vermeer, however, desired to show ordinary life and everyday activities as heroic in its own unique way like maintaining a house tidy, sweeping the yard, babysitting, stitching, or a kitchen maid - making ready lunch. These works are remarkable for their serene, timeless sense of dignity.

Vermeer wanted to depict through his paintings
